senior : TJ

September 2, 2010

I would like to start this out with MAJOR props to TJ for bringing me to some amazing photography spots – he was a better scout than I would have ever been!  Thanks TJ – I think I have new places to bring people now :)  The first place we visited was the Veteran’s Home near Riverside Park where they built a beautiful park – there were probably about seven other photographers there when we were :)

I first met Janet when I worked at Meijer.  Since then, we’ve become the best of friends… I don’t think I could have made it through a day at work without her.  She sat right next to me and we were basically each other’s solace after a long, long day at work.  I can’t tell you how much I miss her smiles and glances – so to meet her for TJ’s senior pictures was such a treat.  TJ is the same kind of person as Janet – so sweet, so nice, and just wonderful overall.

I LOVED these ivy stairs :)  TJ was a good sport and walked through the marshy grasses to get here – I was running towards these stairs with excitement and he probably wondered what my problem was!

Isn’t the setting beautiful?!  I can see why I had to fight so many photographers for it… (okay, not fight, but join)

We headed to Riverside Park for a few basic “head shots,” because TJ’s yearbook wants their photos to have no background – so here we are, against a bathroom wall (seriously – the outside, don’t worry) – and I thought “no way will these turn out” — okay!  Look at TJ!  He looks so handsome!!!  I love these!

Onto the next impromptu stop – and I am sure glad we stopped here – right along the railroad tracks!  Did I mention that I love his boat shoes?

Then, TJ mentioned that he knew of an old abandoned train station, just down the tracks – little did I know that we had to also go over the train BRIDGE – terrified, but thinking this could be worth it, I timidly followed TJ over the scary bridge (apparently I’m not much of a danger junkie, as I kept saying to TJ – “are you sure I’m not going to fall through these?  are you SURE???” :)  He assured me we were fine.  We were, and it was totally worth it.

Why was it worth it?  Because it brought us to one of the coolest locations I’ve EVER been, and also brought us to one of my favorite photos of him.  Look at this one to the bottom right!  He is rockin’ that train station wall!  I love it!!!

So handsome :)

And, our last stop, of all places – was TJ’s grandma’s house, for a few more basic shots.  I really liked the outcome, so I thought I’d post a few :)  He looks so good!  TJ, Janet — thank you SO much!  I had so much fun, and I’ve got a lot more photos to share with you both.  Stay tuned!!!

This is a very similar story to our Christmas card blog post – but when Mike asked me what I wanted to do for our 2 year anniversary, my response (honestly): “Oh! Oh!  I want to go scout out a location for some upcoming clients (that’s you, Tracy!) and take some anniversary pictures running through fields with our hair blowing in the wind… and then I want to go to Norman camera and look at lenses… and then maybe scout out some more photography locations downtown…”  Mike looked at me like – are you serious?  I mean, really, what have our dates turned into?  Photography dates?  So, I added… “And… go out for a nice dinner?” :)

But, seriously, Mike has been a huge supporter of me with this whole photography endeavor.  Without Mike and the loving support of my mom and sister (constantly – everyone probably gets so tired of me!) – I wouldn’t be in this career in the first place!  So it goes to show how supportive he really is ;).

So, here is the “mini” blog post of our tromp through fields in front of barns.  Note… these pictures were all taken with my tripod.  Not an easy feat but… it works ;)

(When I told Mike I wanted to “run through the fields” — he said “are you really serious?” — of course!)

I feel bad for our son, Finnegan.  He’s only 6 months now – so he isn’t embarrassed yet, but can you imagine when he gets into grade school?  I mean… do we actually think we look cool?!  We look absolutely ridiculous.  Poor Finn.

Happy Anniversary Michael —- can’t wait for the rest of our lives together :)   I wonder what this year’s Christmas card will bring?

You may remember Ana from her little sister, Natalie’s newborn photo shoot.  This time, it was Ana’s turn for her 3 year pictures!  We found a little park and walked around, playing in fields and picking daisies – all while I snapped lots of pictures :)

Ana is so incredibly sweet. :)  I am sure you can tell from the pictures, but just being with her is so much fun!

We walked through cattails and wetlands, and it was quite the adventure!  It had rained a LOT the night before so the first path we wanted to take was flooded… not so easy to walk through with Natalie’s stroller and Ana!  I think the next two photos are my favorites… I just love how she is looking back at me in the first one, and how beautiful she looks in the second…

We, of course, found some swings!  And look at her pretty curls!  Completely natural!!

What play date in the park isn’t complete with a little tree climbing? :)

We were almost ready to go when Ana decided she wanted to pose by the tree!  “Of course!” I said… I can never pass up a beautiful pose against a tree!!!

Thank you Veronica, Ana and Natalie :)  I had so much fun… can’t wait for more fun times, brownies, hot chocolate, and lots more pictures!

When I was in 8th grade, I used to spend countless hours with Heather, singing “Don’t Go Chasin’ Waterfalls” by TLC in her bedroom and talking about boys, boys, boys… and when we reconnected again on Facebook and she asked me to take her family’s pictures, I couldn’t have been more excited.  It was SO great to see her again, and especially get to know her family… what an amazing and adorable family she has!  I can’t believe it’s been so long since those TLC singing days… and it makes me feel a little old, because soon, her daughters will be doing the same things WE did when we were younger :)  Amazing how time flies!

First, I would like to point out that Olivia is 7 months old and is smaller than my 4 month old… honestly I think my child is quite large ;)… and then secondly, I would also like to point out how ADORABLE her shoes are!  She has on little mini pink crocs!

So, so sweet…

Do not be deceived, this is really a family of five.  Maddy brought along their youngest (1 month old, she says), Emily.  I had to get a portrait of Maddy with Emily, and luckily we squeaked it in before little Emily had to take a nap.

Yep… wildflowers.  Dandelions.  I think they’re beautiful.

Maddy looks pretty excited to be receiving this kiss… Olivia, not so sure…

Olivia was probably one of the happiest babies I’ve ever met… she kept smiling, laughing and squealing with delight!

I think both of these moments below are so sweet… Maddy is showing Olivia how to properly care for Emily (of course)! and “look what Daddy can do!!!” — he’s so strong!

And we can’t escape a photo shoot without at least one shot of mom & dad together, right? :)

She’s laughing because she totally got splashed in the face with a huge mouthful of water (my bad…)

I’m going to call this part of the blog post (if you’ve made it this far!) my “OUTTAKES” section.  I shouldn’t have posted the next three photos, but I think they evoke such “real family life” that I just couldn’t help it… Olivia just learned how to crawl, so keeping her on this blanket was nearly impossible!  This is my best try to get the two of them together on the blanket :)

And here we enter my utter chaos shots… for some reason the next two remind me of Saturday morning, reading stories in bed, watching cartoons… just goofing around.

My elbow!  Stop crawling!  Look at me, Daddy!  (I love this shot!!)

Olivia is waving goodbye!  So adorable… and so much fun to meet all of you!  I hope you enjoyed your (long) preview post, and can’t wait for more family photos in the future (or excuses just to see each other)!  Thank you for letting me take pictures of your family!!!

I feel so lucky to have been able to take Lauren & Jake’s photos.  Jake is in the army, and is shipping over to Korea on Friday.  FRIDAY!  That seems way too soon!  Lauren e-mailed me a few weeks ago and wanted some photos taken before he left so they would both have a piece to remember each other by, as they’re not sure how long he’ll be gone.  I was honored as I am very much in awe of what Jake is doing for our country!  I think both of them are so special – you should have been with us!  Just hanging out with them reminded me how special love really is.

We started out on the pier at the ice cream shop to do some cute shots…

I said, “Do you want a chocolate malt?” – and they both said, “We’ve never had one!”  Come to think of it, I haven’t either, so I just ordered a chocolate shake.  It just sounded more authentic if it was a “malt,” but… we stuck with what we knew :)

I’m a sucker for willow trees, and when I found them, I made Lauren & Jake jump out of the car and climb through weeds & bugs to get there.  They were troopers… even climbing a tree in a dress!

Embracing the sun flare :)

Lauren is so beautiful!  Her hair is gorgeous – I don’t know how it can be that thick and long!!!  It’s what every girl wants :).

I love this next one – look at how she’s looking at him – they were both so natural and happy in front of the camera.  All I had to do was take the pictures!

We couldn’t resist having a little fun on the swings…

They both love the beach & sunsets, so it was only natural that we took a lot of pictures during the sunset!

This hoodie thing was my idea – just in case Jake’s friends think he’s lost it… I made them do it, I swear. :)

But they are SO cute!!!

Lauren & Jake – I had so much fun!  Jake, good luck – and thank you so much for your service!  You have no idea how much we all appreciate it :)  And Lauren, it was wonderful meeting you… thank you again :)

Last year I did Paige’s senior pics, and we had talked about doing another session with her and her horses.  Once the warm weather came, we were right on it!  I had so much fun hanging out with Paige, her mom Kyle and all the farm animals!  I admit, I do absolutely love horses… even patting one on the nose makes me giddy :).

Paige spends most of her time with Odie (I hope I spelled that right) as she has basically raised him and taught him everything he knows!  He is so gentle and the most beautiful horse!!  Lots of love and kisses :).  She jumped right on him, bareback, and I was quite impressed.  I used to ride bareback and always slid right off (granted, I wasn’t the best in the world)…

Soo pretty…

Although Odie was our main focus, we couldn’t forget Prince… a little more feisty, a lot more height – but just as much love!

And just as many kisses!  Just a little bit higher of a reach :)

Prince and Odie get along quite playfully… Odie kept trying to get to Prince, which made Paige laugh!  The two following might be my favorite of the bunch!

Next up… the cows!  The adorable and wonderful cows!!

They LOVE the brush… in fact, they also loved the camera lens (I think it got a few licks & slobbers during the session)!

Actually, Paige got a few licks and slobbers during the session, too…

More licks… more slobbers… and Paige’s face is priceless in this one.  I couldn’t help posting it :)

And we can’t forget the pigs… they are SO. CUTE.  I love them!  Look at how happy they are, sleeping in their slop… why do I find it so adorable?  I just do…

And last, but not least… the new member of the family – Cooper.  They just rescued him from the shelter only a few days before these photos!  He seemed so happy and right at home with his new family…

Ending with a quick few photos of Paige and her mom, Kyle. :)  I had so much fun coming out – thanks for letting me tromp around in the mud with you guys!  Congratulations, Paige, on your graduation!!!  I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you – I predict great things!!! :)

When Sarah contacted me with her request to do a retro style pin-up shoot, I was super excited!  Sarah and I used to work together, spending a lot of our days playing frisbee and taking walks around our building just to get outside for awhile.  When she told me she had found a Thunderbird for the photo shoot, I was even more excited.  This entire day = perfection!  Sarah honestly looks like she could come straight out of the 50’s glamour magazines… you’ll see what I mean. :)

See what I mean?  Gorgeous.

Of course, pin up models take a little more time looking in the mirror than usual…

Look at this car!!  It was in beautiful condition.  A special thanks to Tom for letting us borrow it for the morning :).

Of course we had to start working on the engine, as all pin up girls do… but had to stop to re-apply the lipstick…

Whew!  Hard work… working on this car…

Next up?  Whipping up something excellent in the kitchen before husband arrives home…

Now that the pot roast is in the oven, we need to stop and find some flowers for the table – but it’s oh so hot outside…

Oh!  It looks as if we had a phone call… better stop to chat…

And of course, what pin up photo shoot isn’t complete without some classic pin-up style poses?  Look at how beautiful her eyes are…

There are many, many more photos that just couldn’t even fit on this blog post – I could hardly choose my favorites!  Thank you Sarah for spending the morning with me!  I had so much fun!

Kasey won the Mother’s Day contest by entering in her vision of a photo shoot – “the everyday things” that her and her 3-year old daughter, Amelia, share with each other.  I was so excited to go and capture her vision!  The “simple” things that don’t necessarily get photographed, yet those things that you remember for a lifetime.

Right upon arriving at Kasey’s house, I could see the beautiful bond that her and her daughter share with each other.  That special, “nose wrinkling” (words from Kasey’s letter) kind of love that moms share with their children…

Kasey and Amelia love to hula hoop together :)

Even if they get a little tired!  I love this next picture on the right – it reminds me of my 3 month old and how he cuddles on my shoulder.  I don’t ever want that to end, and it was so nice to see between Kasey and Amelia as well.

Who doesn’t love sidewalk chalk?  Even I set down my camera to draw on the sidewalk… I couldn’t help myself :)

Yes, I drew this sun.  And yes, I tried to get both of them to lay on the sidewalk… ;)

I love watching them walk and hold hands.  So cute.

Next up?  Bubbles!  All kinds of wonderful bubbles…

Kasey’s backyard is filled with so many fun things to do.  We couldn’t resist swinging for just a few minutes!

Dirty feet!  The perfect example of carefree, lazy days of summer fun!

Off to plant some flowers in the garden.  I caught Kasey getting Amelia ready to get her hands dirty and couldn’t resist taking a few shots… I think this is adorable.

Love this – I think it’s my favorite of the entire day…

Amelia was great at helping with flower planting – I’d love to have her come help me in my garden!

Uh oh!  Dirty hands!

Last, but not least – a rest from gardening to enjoy some popsicles on the front porch.  Mmmmm… blue is Amelia’s favorite color popsicle (when I asked her what flavor it was, she said “raspberry” and it really IS – but why are they blue?  I still don’t get it), and I made Kasey eat a red one because it matched her apron… nice, right? :)

The best part of the day!  Popsicles indeed!!!

Happy Mother’s Day to every mom, daughter, grandma, sister, aunt … out there! :)  May lots of love surround you today!  And Kasey – thank you for letting me share and see your wonderful and touching bond with your daughter.  I had so much fun!  You two are amazing!
